Technology For The Good of Man Kind

Lomak

Technology is wonderful when it's used to improve the lives of others; We think that the Lomak (Light Operated Mouse and Keyboard) is a glowing example of this! Such a computer could be used by people with disabilities. The pointer can be controlled by hand or it can be mounted on someone's head, where a beam of light is emitted. Hence, the light targets the input device and allows one to type a letter by simply moving their head. This idea recently won the gold medal at the 2007 IDEA design awards.  Something tells us that this technology will be here sooner than we think!

Sony Introduces World's First HD Video Walkman

Hdwalk1

Sony has brought us the Walkman in many incarnations, and can be credited for being one of the first true pioneers to miniaturized gadgets that enabled one to listen to their favorite radio stations or listen to cassettes while on the go (Apple just improved upon this technology). Sony continues their tradition of introducing yet another Walkman, but this time it's the HD video Walkman (which is the first of it's kind).

The GV-HD700E portable player features a 7-inch fold-down display with 800 x 480 resolution and plays HDV 1080i as well as miniDV tapes. It also boasts iLink and HDMI connections. The HD Video Walkman (GV-HD700E) is expected to hit the streets in September. No pricing has been determined as of yet.

Half a Transformer is better than none?

Bumblebee_figure

Anyone who has seen the movie Transformers or who has watched it on television, knows that one of the coolest things about these robots is that they could "transform" from a truck or a car into a gargantuan robot. So, when we got our hands on a Bumblebee Stomping Action Figure ($24.99), we were a bit miffed to see that this robot does not transform into a car. Yes, this bot walks, makes noises and lights up, but the whole point of having one of these gizmo's is being able to transform it.

The above pictured model is done by Hasbro. A word to the wise is to read the fine print on the box before purchasing any product, as we discovered the box indicated that "product does not convert". While this is not a case of deception on Hasbro's part it is perhaps a disappointment to many transformer fans. Because if this device does not covert into anything, then it's just not a "Transformer", now is it?

Price Drop on Xbox 360 External HD DVD Player

Xbox_hd_dvd_1_2

It comes to show you that if you wait long enough, the price of tech devices will eventually drop. Thus, this is the case with Microsoft's Xbox 360 external HD DVD player, which is now $179. Also, Microsoft is throwing in five free HD DVD movies along with it. The jury is still out on this new technology, but if you do plan on purchasing one, you'll no doubt be one of the early adopters!

Umine_projector

The Healing Theater Umine promises to give any room in your humble abode some personality and umph. This unit projects calming images of water and other images onto your ceilings or walls. Hence, a flip of a switch on the Healing Theater may give way to a rain forest motif.  The Umine projector is surprisingly affordable at $84 and will be available sometime in mid August.

The Blow Table Lamp is Way Cool!

Blow_table_lamp

For the art and tech lover in you, we think that the Blow Table Lamp ($1200---ouch!) is an ingenious piece of innovative and thought provoking piece of work! This fully functional lamp is encased in a solid orb of glass. The orientation of the light bulb is controlled by a magnet which is located outside of the glass. Pretty nifty, eh?

Who Wants to Be a Millionare -- For $6 A Month?

This by far is the most useless and asinine pseudo tech service that we've ever heard of. However, we realize that not everyone may not agree with this point of view. Kramer_fakereceipt Thus, we present to you a service that will manufacture fake ATM receipts for a fee. Perhaps, one wants to impress their friends or the ladies into thinking that their loaded. Custom Receipts charges $6 for four, or $15 for 52. With the money that you're throwing away here, you may just want to save it to purchase the software that will enable you to do this kind of stuff your self!

Asus's C905 Laptop PC is Upgradeable!

Asus_c90s The one major caveat about PC laptops is that they are not upgradeable and with Microsoft's latest OS incarnation of Vista, many computer users with laptops ranging from 1 to 2 years old who wanted Vista had to purchase new laptops to accommodate Vista's hardware muscle.

Asus, wants to change the way one thinks about PC laptops by offering a truly and fully upgradeable laptop. Their new C905 notebook is upgradeable from it's screen, video card and to the processor. The basic configuration of this notebook has an Intel Conroe desktop processor, a 15.4-inch screen, a 2.0 megapixel webcam, HDMI, Bluetooth, an integrated TV tuner, E-SATA, an 8-in-1 media card reader, 802.11n WiFi, a fingerprint reader, 3 USB ports and support for either HD-DVD or Blu-ray drives.  That's not a bad starting base price for $1,300 and one will always have an up to date piece of hardware that can keep up with those ever changing tech times!

Motorola & Microvision's Projector Cell Phone

Picopmotorola11_2

In our opinion, Motorola and Microvision is upping the ante in emerging technology by the creation of a tiny projector that will go into the innards of a cell phone. Although, this project is at the prototype stage, one can only imagine the possibilities of giving presentations using a cell phone. Hence, decreasing the amount of gadgets that one has to schlep around.

The PicoP, is a miniature projector created by Microvision from a minuscule DLP chip that is produced by Texas Instruments. The image resolution will be capable of projecting a widescreen image at 854x480 pixels( we're talking DVD quality). The resulting image won't be home theater-sized, but will measure around 15 inches diagonal, about the size of a typical laptop screen. There's no word as to when or if this technology will be available to the masses anytime soon.
